This was done in order to avoid having too much slippering to do. He reckoned he had it about right if he had to slipper 5 or 6 boys out of a class of 30. He pointed out that with 7 or 8 classes to teach that was quite a lot of slippering to do in the space of three days. I asked him what he thought of the system and he said that in his opinion a certain amount of slippering was necessary if the school was to maintain its outstanding examination results.
